Discover the art of European combat and master sword handling.
Historical Fencing, also internationally known as HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), is a fascinating martial art that revives the technique and skill of European combat. Based on historical treatises and documents that have survived to the present day, this discipline teaches the rigorous handling of swords, daggers, spears, and staffs.
The sessions available in Gaia offer a practical and dynamic approach, allowing practitioners to develop not only their physical and mental conditioning but also a direct connection to historical heritage. A: No. The classes are perfectly adapted to welcome beginners. Learning always starts with the basic fundamentals of posture, movement, and sword handling, following the pace and physical condition of each participant.
2. Is it necessary to buy equipment, such as the sword or the mask, right for the first class?
A: No. Generally, the school provides the basic beginner equipment (such as synthetic training swords and fencing masks) for the first months of practice. The acquisition of personal equipment and more advanced protective gear is done gradually.
3. Is the practice of Historical Fencing (HEMA) safe?
A: Yes, safety is the main pillar of the discipline. Training sessions are conducted under supervision, using specific protective equipment and swords designed for training. Free sparring only occurs when the practitioner already masters the techniques of defense and weapon control.

A: For the initial classes, it is recommended to wear standard, comfortable sportswear (such as a t-shirt and sweatpants) that allows for good freedom of movement. It is also essential to bring clean sports shoes suitable for indoor practice.
