Children | 3-5 years
The first contact with martial arts in a playful and safe way. Classes develop motor coordination, balance and attention, while teaching fundamental values such as respect and discipline. Tuesday: 17:45 – 18:30

Children | 6-11 years
More structured classes that reinforce focus, discipline and self-confidence. Children learn progressive karate techniques while developing skills that transfer to school and everyday life. Tuesday and Thursday: 18:30 – 19:30

Teenagers and Adults (+13 years)
A dynamic and complete training session that improves physical fitness, relieves stress and teaches effective self-defence techniques. With close guidance from certified instructors, each student progresses at their own pace — from beginner to advanced. Tuesday and Thursday: 19:30 – 20:45

About Nintai Dojo
Located in S. Martinho do Bispo, Coimbra, Nintai Dojo — 'The Dojo of Perseverance and Hope' — was born from the expansion of the Shukokai Karate Santa Clara school to create a new hub for Martial Arts, Fitness and Health. Inspired by the Japanese concept of resilience and serenity (Nintai), this space goes beyond Karate, also integrating Yoga, Functional Training and Self-Defence in an environment dedicated to self-improvement and physical and mental wellbeing.

1. Who are the Karate training sessions in Coimbra suitable for?
A: Training sessions are suitable for children from the age of 3, teenagers and adults, from beginners to advanced practitioners. There are specific groups for each age range and level.

2. Do I need prior martial arts experience?
A: No. There are specific groups for beginners, with progressive teaching and close guidance from instructors. Teaching adapts to the pace of each practitioner.

3. How do the first two free training sessions work?
A: The first two training sessions are completely free and with no commitment whatsoever. It is the ideal opportunity to get to know the dojo, the instructors and experience Karate Shukokai before deciding to sign up. Simply contact us and show up.

4. What are the costs after the free training sessions?
A: After the two free sessions, the costs are: annual registration of €35 and insurance with annual IAKJ membership of €50. The monthly training fee is defined at the time of enrolment.

5. What are the main benefits of Karate Shukokai?
A: Karate Shukokai improves physical fitness, coordination, agility and endurance, while developing discipline, self-confidence and self-defence techniques. For children, it also reinforces concentration, respect and team spirit.

6. Is Karate suitable for shy or hyperactive children?
A: Yes. Shyer children gain confidence and expression, while more hyperactive children learn to channel their energy, focus and respect rules. Karate is one of the most complete activities for child development.

7. What equipment is needed to start?
A: For the first training sessions, comfortable sportswear is all that is needed. The kimono (gi) is purchased after the decision to enrol — the instructor will advise on the necessary equipment at the time of registration.

8. How does progression in Karate Shukokai work?
A: Progression is achieved through grading examinations, represented by different belt colours — from white to black. Each grade is earned when the practitioner masters the techniques of the corresponding level, at their own pace.
