Ready to see your child shine and express themselves through dance?
The Contemporary Dance Classes for young people aged 13 to 15 in Penafiel take technique and artistic expression to the next level at this stage of greater maturity. Classes combine technical work (alignment, center, weight transfers), safe floor work, musicality, and dynamics with guided improvisation and choreographic creation.
Students build movement phrases, explore different qualities (fluidity, suspension, impact), and develop stage confidence, as well as partner and group work. Physical conditioning is adapted to their age, promoting strength, mobility, and endurance without overload.
More than just physical activity, it is a safe and inspiring space to grow in autonomy, discipline, and creativity. The methodology adapts both to those coming from the 8–11 level and to students from other styles (ballet/hip hop).
Book a trial class and discover how contemporary dance can enhance your child’s technique, stage presence, and artistic voice.

1. What is the duration of the classes and the recommended frequency?
A: Classes last around 60 minutes and a frequency of 1 to 2 times per week is recommended to consolidate technique, endurance, and creativity at this more demanding stage.
2. How do contemporary dance classes for ages 13–15 differ from the 8–11 group?
A: Between the ages of 13 and 15, students have greater physical and cognitive maturity. This allows for the exploration of longer and more complex sequences, structured improvisation, the introduction of choreographic composition, and a deeper sense of rhythm and spatial awareness.
3. What are the main benefits of this practice for teenagers?
A: Contemporary dance improves posture, flexibility, strength, and coordination. It promotes discipline, focus, and self-esteem, stimulates artistic expression and creativity, prepares students for stage performance, and strengthens social skills such as empathy and teamwork.
4. Is previous dance experience required?
A: No. Classes are open to beginners as well as those who have already practiced other styles (ballet, hip hop, jazz). The methodology adapts to each student’s level.
5. What specific skills are developed in class?
A: Students develop musicality, body awareness, creative improvisation, choreographic composition, artistic interpretation, strength, and mobility. They also learn to work in pairs and in groups.
6. What clothing or equipment is recommended?
A: Comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement (leggings, wide pants, leotard, and t-shirt). Classes are usually practiced barefoot or with non-slip socks. Bringing a water bottle is also recommended.
7. How many students are usually in each class?
A: Classes are kept small to ensure close supervision and individual attention, while still maintaining collective group work.
8. How do these classes contribute to academic and personal development?
A: Dance improves memory, concentration, and discipline — skills that support academic learning. On a personal level, it builds self-confidence, helps with emotional regulation, and encourages social integration.
9. Is it possible to take a trial class before enrolling?
A: Yes. The school offers the possibility of a trial class, subject to availability, so families can get to know the teachers, the space, and the teaching methodology.
10. What is the progression after the age of 14?
A: After this stage, students can join the +15 level, where the focus is on technical refinement, more demanding choreographic creation, and the development of a mature artistic identity.
11. Are there performances or events for this age group?
A: Yes. MissisDance regularly organizes performances, auditions, and annual showcases, giving students the opportunity to perform on stage, gain performance experience, and share their progress with their families.
